Papers, 1925-1931, of Frank Brown Allen.

Correspondence, 1925, 1927-1931, of Frank Allen Brown (of Warrenton, N.C., and while attending Duke University, Durham, N.C.). Letters are arranged chronologically and depict Frank's summer after high school, his departure for college, and events of his freshman and sophomore years. The bulk of the letters are from his mother, Lula Jenkins (Macon) Allen, in Warrenton discussing her active social life and the well-being of friends and relations, and giving Frank advice on studying and financial issues. Other correspondents include his brother, Philemon, who traveled extensively in the Midwest for an unnamed merchantile concern; friends attending Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., Woodberry Forest School, Woodberry Forest, Va., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and female friends and girlfriends in a variety of locations. Topics include the usual concerns of college life such as courses, football, fraternities, and dances. Also included are school papers, 1929-1930, consisting of exams in chemistry, history, and English, instructions to incoming freshmen, and miscellany; and financial receipts and check stubs, 1928-1930, and printed miscellany. Among the printed materials are a ticket to the Carolina Theatre in Chapel Hill, N.C., brochures and other information about Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, and a catalog from The Booklovers' Shop in Durham, N.C.
